Tom Carter

Post by Lachlan on Mon Nov 10, 2014 5:38 pm

Tom Carter has signed with Glenelg

Disappointed to see him leave. I think he could develop
into a very good league ruckman. It was his decision I'm told.

Glenelg have sent out a press release about their recruits and Carter
was an unexpected signing according to them.
I'm sure the club wanted to keep him but he wanted to leave its a simple as that.

Terrible news. He should have been playing full back for most of the year. Big guy that could play key position and ruck. Bloody hell. Shocked Shocked Shocked

I think Tom Keough had full-back under control.

Disappointing that Tom decided to play elsewhere, but that's his decision.

Seeing we finished 9th I don't think that anything was under control. Shocked Shocked Shocked

It's unlikely but what if he gets drafted? I hope we've protected ourselves so that Glenelg don't get the drafting fees.

We get a transfer fee from Glenelg for him.

Interesting question if he gets drafted, but chance of that is very low, as you say.

Is this a sign that the off field troubles have impacted on the playing group?
As someone outside the inner workings, we have so far not announced any "new" signings and have lost a lot of last years squad.
Losing a player to Glenelg says a lot IMO about where the club and team is at.
With no money to recruit or do most things these days, not much optimism atm.

Last night was the first night of pre-season.

Apart from the losses announced, all players are contracted and several new players were at training.

Of the player losses, Tom Carter is the only one to go to another SANFL club. All others have either retired, returned to Victoria or playing locally because of injury and work-load concerns.

Most clubs haven't announced all their recruits yet, but I'm sure Westies' supporters will get good news before too long.

Training was enthusiastic and I have no doubt our squad will be stronger this season than last.

In the runs, greatr to see Jimmy Ezard so fit, young Jack Agostino right up there, Brad Helbig in great nick and a much fitter and stronger group than last year.

I don't recall anyone here screaming for him to be selected before he was last season, but I might be wrong.

If you want to defend a player for leaving because he didn't get a game when he thought he should, that's OK, but I wouldn't want to defend a culture that accepts that.

I've never heard so much discussion about an average B grader.

I think you will find Lee that both ST and I wanted him in the side from the first game at full back. Mentioned it many times

West need to be aiming to turn B graders into A graders. I thought he would have been great at full back. He turned out to be good in the ruck with the games that he got at the end of the season. Shocked Shocked Shocked

Fair enough, brodlach.

I stand corrected on that, but my point about players leaving because things don't go their way still stands.

I take your point but that didn't stop us recruiting players that have shown the same tenancies ie Hardy (who may also told the club some mistruths)

God Almighty, it's not like he's spent three years banging the door down in the Reserves demanding senior selection. I'd rather have him than not but he's an unproven kid. We don't know that this is the main reason anyway, but if it is it doesn't say much for him.
