Adelaide Oval

Post by LukeO9 on Mon Sep 07, 2015 10:14 am

Adelaide Oval is a great arena, but instead of the excitement that goes along with an SANFL final with crowd numbers 3-4 times that of a minor round game, we were given an atmosphere presented by a 90% empty stadium, where the cheers of season followers banished to the exterior seats were heard echoing across a huge chasm.
Was it an SANFL final? Hard to tell. After a whole season watching the Bloods from around the Western stand area, we were told that area was reserved for members only…but not all members of the 4 clubs that were playing that day….only the members of 2 AFL clubs, of which play in a completely different competition. And the cost to them? Nothing…free entry. Can’t charge for such a lowly ranked game such as an SANFL final, can we? SANFL supporters weren’t even offered the option of paying an extra charge of premium seats. Totally off limits!
The QF yesterday had a sense of David vs Goliath, where an SANFL club was competing not only against an AFL reserve side, but also against the SANFL administration that appears more concerned about AFL, seemingly welcoming the treatment of the comp’s supporters like second class citizens when attending their own final.
I think West’s great win yesterday meant more than we suppose.

Great comment on the current state of the SANFL comp.
