Mallee Zone

Post by Lee Harradine on Tue Apr 05, 2016 10:01 am

I left work early yesterday and visited our Mallee Zone with our Football Manager, Andrew Marks.

Had a very enjoyable time sharing the Premiership Cup and plenty of banter with some of the locals and one or two long-time Westies fans in the Parilla Hotel. We then moved on to Parilla West (Lameroo), for a 2 hour Mallee Football League meeting, arriving back in Adelaide just before midnight.

My thanks to Patrick O'Driscoll & the MFL for their hospitality and a very big thanks to Andrew Marks, who works tirelessly for our club over long hours.

For me it was a bit of an enjoyable one-off as a Board member, for Andrew it was a very well done normal part of his job, which is invaluable in maintaining and nurturing our relationships with our valued country zones.

Just thought it would be good that fans got just a taste of what happens at the club.

Hope you didn't partake of too many beers in the Parilla Hotel, Lee.....
(Always good to hear what the club is doing behind the scenes!)

Several cokes and a free snitty dinner, courtesy of Patrick O'Driscoll, R2.

Great people in the zone, representing Murrayville, Pinnaroo, Lameroo, Border Downs Tintinara, Peake and Karoonda.

We've had a lot of good players from the Mallee zone, Tom Keough being the latest.

We currently have Alex Stidiford and Josh Smithson in our Reserves and several promising juniors in Under 16's and 18's.

Well done by both of and i strongly endorse your comments reference andrew.

When one speaks to country parents etc the club name has never been held in higher respect all which credits to andrew.

About time that you mr board member raised the issue of a pay rise for andrew before we lose him 😈😈😈

Great to see young Stidiford and Smithson performing so well. Not to mention Charlie Hay as well who is developing nicely in the Under 16s.

Credit to PODs, Andrew Marks and also David Bradley for the fantastic work they are doing in our Country Zones.

Yes, they deserve full credit.

I watched Charlie last Saturday and he was excellent, as always.

While on the subject of country zones. Is Roxby still part of our zone? I was looking on the SANFL website the other day and that shows the Bays now has that area.

No, it's definitely still ours.

The SANFL map is incorrect.

Good, I reckon that will be a very good source of talent in the years to come. Very young  families in a town with not much else to do but play sport. Westies need to promote themselves up there as I believe we do already.
