This trial is only 24 hours away and there's no promotion of it on the club website. (There's a list of our pre-season trials, but nothing beyond that.) I know it's only a trial match but surely we want (and need) to get as many people going through the club as we can. I got an email from the club this afternoon promoting functions on April 1, and April 29, but no mention of an actual game of football tomorrow night at our ground.

West won 12.11 to 11.9, I think were the scores.

We all saw a young superstar tonight. 16yo Izak Rankine was BOG and is special.

Lots of good players - Haysman, Turner in particular. Hill extremely good and several new players showed a lot. Peter, Carger , Batley, Iannucci.

Chris Burgess took a lot of marks in defence. Many other good players.

Rankine - WOW!!!

Final score in this close but untidy encounter was WA 12.11 to NA 11.9.

Westies published a team list with no player numbers so we were guessing about some of the new recruits. Pretty ordinary effort really. Nothing was open so nothing to eat or drink. Had no idea who Carger, Peter and Batley were. Also, our squad seemed a lot bigger in numbers than NA which would have had an impact on the result.

The following did not play in the main trial: Schmidt (runner), Keogh, Caire, Porplyzia, Webb. Also didnít see Middleton although he was down to play. Is Aaron Anderson still around?

Of the 3 talls who played back Burgess stood out, Ryan was useful and Wilson (no 12?) quiet.

Young J Noble seems to have filled out a bit. Turner did some good things but struggled with fitness late in the game. A no 30 did some good things in the last Q.

There were 3 ruckmen. McPherson, Majok and a number 55. They all looked useful in the contests but we were still well beaten in this department. Majok is, arguably, one of the most athletic and promising players in the club.

But the standout was watching young Rankine play. An exceptional talent and it will be a sad day in August 2018 when he plays his last game for the club.

There seemed to be no significant improvement in skill level from last season. We continue to turn the ball over to an alarming degree. Quick movement of the ball is the game plan but this relies on a level of skill that we donít seem to have as yet. North were pretty bad in this area as well but that is of no concern. Also, we go around in circles and use up lots of gas without getting any closer to goal.

The 2s were thrashed 14.22 to 1.1. Yep, thatís 36 shots to 2. Only a trial though!!?

No 30 is Lachie Peter. 55 is young Tom Beard. Up to 20 players sat out the game & a number of juniors played in the first game.

Team sheets with numbers were available at the ground. I agree that the kiosk should have been open.

Good support for a trial game , but disappointed no bbq or canteen open.Went down the club and got hot chips $8.00 bit rich for the amount we got, would have been about $3.00 worth in a chip shop.

Rankine is nearly ourr best player already! His mark. Wow.
Young Ryan down in bbbbackline was good.
Rucks tryed hard
Greeny down back I'm not sure would like him up forward.
Turner players well.
Fielke in midfield looked OK to which surprised me.
Should he play permanent forward.
I was happy last night

We have lost a couple of quality Mids in Tuck and O'Brien and having
Fielke play through the midfield more this year is a good thing.
Firstly we need to have more players play through the midfield than we have since Mickan became the coach. ( more rotations)
Secondly Fielke has been pidgeon holed as a small forward since Mickan came to the club and I think it will give Fielke a new lease on life.

An ordinary game on Friday night but it is still only a practice game.
The only highlight was Rankine. Has huge talent and will enjoy watching him this year.
We will certainly need our best players available to be competitive this year. Forward line is a worry.....

I thought Haysman was outstanding and Brett Turner and Lachie Peter very good.

Mason Middleton did not play, neither did Zac Bates.

Rankine really was great, wasn't he, WP?

Couldn't make this trial but with a significant amount of 1st choice players out, a result like this signals many positives
Looking 4wd to a review or two from those who saw the trial
