West v Norwood

Post by aldo russian on Tue Apr 18, 2017 1:46 pm

Are we any chance?

Surely we couldn't go in with an unchanged side again.
A loss this week would put an awful lot of pressure on the North game the following round.

Team to play Norwood

FF Watchman Middleton Fielke
HF Turner Keough Green
C Bates Stevens Noble
HB Hill Klemke Batley
FB Caire Wilson Burgess

1st R Webb Schiller Silverlock
2ndR Watchman Fielke Haysman
Int. Haysman,Wasley Black, Waite

In Watchman,Klemke,Waite,Silverlock
Out Peter,Majok,Favretto,Agostino.

Favretto,Agostino,Peter and Majok have done very little.
I would move Batley to defence to generate some run fom the back half.

Klemke has been very good in the ressies for the past 2 weeks and he deserves an extended run in the league provided he doesn't get injured.
By promoting another tall in Klemke I think we structure up better and that means Keough plays Forward.

Wasley Black and Burgess are on notice, they need to perform this week. Wasley Black has done little so far and Burgess was beaten by Jack Hayes against the Eagles. Mind you Hayes seems to be a very promising player from what I witnessed.

Our midfield has been smashed in the past 2 weeks and everyone bar Stevens needs to lift big time against Norwood otherwise I fear another flogging.

I agree with your ins and outs for this week.
However, I don't think it will make any difference to the result.
Norwood easily. Might be a bit wet which will tighten it up a little.

I fear we are looking at a similar season to 2016.

I don't think it's serious, bb, but we'll have to await the medical advice.

Re: West v Norwood

I'm somewhat baffled by our selected team against Norwood.

Keough will play forward which is a good thing.
Middleton is our best key forward, And based on the team selected
he will spend some time in the ruck. Why? Middleton isn't a ruckman and
I would have thought with the injury to Webb an opportunity was there to play
McPherson or Watchman which would allow us to play two key forwards in Keough and
Middleton for the whole game.

Firstly McPherson is a genuine ruckman and Watchman is a developing ruckman/forward it would have been good experience for either of them against Baulderstone. Secondly you are asking to much of Middleton to play key forward and ruck, it will disminish his output as a key forward. Thirdly based on the first 2 games and the trials it seems as though young Piilon will play the role vacated by Lachies Peter as the forward pocket player and then full forward when Middleton goes into the ruck.
Pillon is a developing play with ability, however he isn't physically ready to play league Footy.
McPherson or Watchman should have been selected ahead of him.

My mail is that Watchman was not selected for a disciplinary reason & McPherson has had an injury so selectors felt a game or two in the twos is necessary.

Three quarter time norwood by 26 and by radio dominated but did not kick straight

Westies cannot find a target forward and also poor forward delivery

PS was 2 points when I wrote that, 11 minute mark of the second quarter to the 26th minute of the last quarter, over a half of football in my opinion

Doesn't help when you have Schmidt,Porps, Webb, Helbig and Rankine not playing.
Klemke also didn't play due to injury.

With Klemke out injured Keough was forced to play down back and therefore the only key marking target up forward was Middleton.

I want to start this post on a positive note......

The girls in the canteen were the hardest working people at the ground. Despite having to deal with streams of unhappy customers who had to wait 15 mins in line and then another 5 to be served chips they soldiered on with the best deep fryer you could get from Harris Scarfe.....well done girls.

Back to the footy.... I agree with WP it is going backwards. We are completely out manned and out skilled. Those that lachie says are out will not turn our form around.
The one thing we have is endeavour.....I think our blokes had a crack but most just aren't good enough to play league footy.
Change the game plan to ultra defence....stem the bleeding and try and bully a few goals (Dare I say it.. Andy Collins style)
Sure it looks crap for the supporters but who in their right mind will continue to pay $14 to watch what we have seen this year?

As for the Legs supporters...you never disappoint. Probably the most disgruntled mob of 7 goal winners I have seen.

It was the first bloods game I have come away from and genuinely thinking I have been completely ripped off for my entry fee and I would feel better just spending that money on a couple of cans at a local amateur game.

It was obvious in the first game against South that we are in for yet another long season as the team is lacking any forwards that can mark and kick straight, rucks are paper thin, midfield inexperienced and backline undermanned against bigger forwards.

Coach is in year 4 and it's been 2nd Bottom, premiers, bottom, looking likely for bottom again by the looks of it and surely questions on Mickans coaching and style are warranted. What a way to kill any optimism any of us might of had for 2017 after such a dismal 2016 in 3 rounds.

The players missing will help but won't make us a finals contender. Recruiting yet again failed to address ruck and forward defiencies with Wilson and Batley the only ones looking like league standard (from what I have seen). The fight shown so far is good but have seen enough footy to know this will eventually dissipate with the inevitable losses that loom ahead as I can't see us beating Port, crows, Glenelg, Sturt etc. based on evidence to date.
