Jono started quiet not helped by some poor kicks to him when he made great position.

After half time he worked himself into the game with some strong body work and good positioning -- and he kicked his first afl goal.

He is a genuine afl player and tonight earned his rewards for years of disappointment and sheer hard work.

This kid brings great honour to his family and the west adelaide club

He certainly does. I'm sure his whole family is very proud. All those watching there tonight and from above. Well done Jono.

I put this on facebook:

I watched a lad playing juniors for Westies years ago and was impressed. He looked a natural, but had a different kicking style. He progressed to West's league team and always played well. Always. That kicking style hadn't changed, but he always found the target and was also a great kick for goal. There was something else we all noticed - he never missed a training session.

The AFL clubs ignored him. You need to work on this and that, they told him. He did. He won a premiership, he kicked 8 in a SANFL final, he was upgraded to the Crow's senior list, back on the rookie list, upgraded again.

His form was excellent, but still no AFL game.

Last night, I saw No 1 for Adelaide kick a goal. A skilful, composed goal. A goal a decade in the making but a goal greeted with joy by thousands, none more so than those who celebrate the good things in life.

The reaction of his team mates said it all and that reaction was repeated in the hearts of so many.

Jono Beech - skill, determination and decency. The West Adelaide Football Club and all of us are proud of you.

I agree with all the other posters Jono Beech was very impressive last night and the way the players embraced him after his first goal was fantastic.
