Agreed. 6 foot 5, 40-odd AFL games, not too many of them running around in the SANFL. Be nice if he could bring a delisted teammate with him.

Agreed -- even  though the Hawks always played him back I have always felt his future was as pack marking forward --- time will tell

The West Adelaide Football Club are pleased to announce that Josh Koster will be in red and black in 2020. Josh has played his football at Glenelg and narrowly missed out on playing in Glenelg’s 2019 grand final.

Possessing blistering pace and strong willingness to pressure the opposition, the 21 year old possesses much needed attributes for our squad. On the signing, League coach Gavin Colville said, “we are very pleased to welcome Josh to our Club. He has displayed a keenness to further his football development and we know West Adelaide is a great fit for him going forward”.

The promising junior who has now played 29 league matches is originally from PHOS Camden Football Club and attended Sacred Heart College where he played in their first XVIII.

Welcome to Westies Josh

AFL website today https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-11-01/swans-to-snap-up-cut-hawk-defender-and-port-forward

SYDNEY is set to sign ex-Hawthorn defender Kaiden Brand and former Port Adelaide forward Sam Gray as delisted free agents.

The Swans have been searching for a key backman to add to their ranks and are understood to have settled on Brand, who was cut by the Hawks this season after 43 games with the club. The Swans have been actively looking at their options in the DFA space, with Brand’s athleticism and ability to hold down a key defensive post an appeal.

The 25-year-old played five games this season for the Hawks, with his best year coming in 2017, when he managed 17 senior appearances.

Signing reserves players isn’t what we need.

Recruiting this year has now become the single biggest PRIORITY.

Colville needs urgent help in this area. I really hope the CEO is getting involved.

One person who would make a big Impact with Recruiting would be someone like Adam Hartlett. He Seems to have the personality and Leadership qualities required to Recruit good players to our club.

SANFL move: Adam Hartlett to join Glenelg as assistant coach

How did we not get him back???

North, who finished one spot above us, have signed 4 ex-AFL players so far (granted 2 of them are returning players). We haven't signed any yet.

Salary cap restrictions to 'save money' by the SANFL in their great wisdom can have wide-ranging implications.

With Brand no longer coming, I hope the club has had a back up plan.

We have a significant amount of money to spend in our salary cap  and our Recruiting simply must deliver 5 or 6 quality players.

As a club we simply need to recruit BETTER than any other club given the number of players we have lost and where we finished on the Premiership table.

The club cannot afford another year like the last 4 as our Financial Performance will continue to decline and our existence questioned.

As for the Recruits we have signed so far I HAVE BIG QUESTION MARKS.

It is still only early in regard to recruits but already we are behind most of the other clubs. Having said that, the other clubs have been fortunate that some recruits are returning player.
Hopefully after the AFL draft there are some announcements.
Supporters and Members need some optimism about 2020.

Mate, I fully agree with your concerns and any club sponsor (at any level) who believes/feels this needs to let the club know of their concerns and indicate that future sponsorship participation is at risk !

They ($$$$$$$) are the only ones who have any influence within the club !

Sam Davidson Joins The Pack

West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Sam Davidson for the 2020 season.

Sam joined Port Adelaide as a Development player in 2018, after time spent with the Gold Coast FC Academy. A regular in Port Adelaide’s league team, Sam has played league 30 games including this years Grand Final. Playing predominantly across the half forward line, Sam possesses electrifying pace and uses this to great effect. Expect to see Sam, taking and breaking with the ball and hitting our forwards with fine skills.

Senior Coach, Gavin Colville said, “we were on the lookout for players with genuine pace and Sam certainly ticks this box. Also known for his professionalism and team first approach, I am confident he will be a great addition to our Club”.

Welcome to Westies Sam!

So far we have recruited only fringe players from other clubs.
We have to recruit 2 or 3 A Graders to bolster our list.
Sturt, North, South and Norwood have done so already.....

You can add the Eagles to that list with the Ruckman/Forward they have signed. And Glenelg definitely will being the Premiers.

Well this year will be the test about our new "appointed committee" won't it?
We were all told this was to way forward due to their special expertise to make the club strong just like Sturt who at the time was doing well.
So now is the time for them to deliver.

Update from Gavin.

Senior Coach Gavin Colville Gives Members and Supporters an Update On Recruiting and Playing List

After the challenges of season 2019, no doubt many Club members are keen to know how recruiting for 2020 is progressing! The recruiting process is multi-faceted and in some regard, talent identification is the first and easiest part of the process. Getting to know each potential recruit; their football and career goals in particular, is imperative. Some of this process involves us travelling interstate to meet players however where possible we bring prospective recruits to Adelaide. This is an opportunity for them to meet key coaching and administration staff, and most importantly members of the playing group. We aim to recruit from all levels of football. This includes players from lower grades of football who have shown standout form (both locally and interstate), players from comparative levels (WAFL, VFL, NEAFL) and of course, those exiting the AFL system. Player recruitment is extremely competitive. For every player we contact, multiple other clubs will also be reaching out. Our job is to be ahead the pack.

One of our main recruiting priorities was to increase our pace. The recruitment of Josh Koster (Glenelg) and Sam Davidson (Port Adelaide Development Squad) has filled this need. Both have genuine pace with ability to play both in the midfield and in the forward line. We also wanted to increase our midfield running capacity. Jordon Boyle (Adelaide Development Squad) and Ed Allan (Sturt), both excel in this area. Our ruck stocks have increased with the inclusion of Stuart Taverner. Standing 202cm, Stuart is a late comer to Australian Rules, who displayed great form in local football this year, winning the Best & Fairest at Plympton FC. Dominic Grant has also joined the Club from NT Thunder. We expect Dominic to push for league selection across half back. He also possesses strong pace. Having consolidated our depth, in key areas, we are now focused on filling key positions in the team. We are actively looking for a key position forward and another experienced midfielder. We are also in talks to secure another key position backman or 3rd tall. With most recently delisted AFL players waiting on either the free agency period and or draft (late November), we need to be patient in our efforts. For most, the opportunity to reignite their AFL career remains their priority, should this not eventuate, we aim to make West Adelaide a destination of choice. I am confident that through continued effort by our Club staff, we will fill the identified needs and put together a very competitive list for 2020.

As with each new season, some players will look to play elsewhere. Errin Wasley-Black has moved to Brisbane with his young family. Jono Beech is relocating to the Gold Coast to spend time with his brothers and to take opportunity to travel. We expect to have Jono back in Westies colours in 2021. Hugh Haysman has decided to pursue football and work opportunities that have presented in Melbourne, while Chris Schmidt has retired from League Football. Each of these players have contributed significantly to our Club and will be missed. Rest assured, as players move on, new players emerge to take their place. With 13 players from this year’s U/18 finals team at preseason training, a new batch of Young Bloods is raring and ready to make their mark on League Football.

I feel this answers many of the questions raised and thank the club for its release.

Now we await confirmation or denial of the removal of Salary Cap rumor.

All clubs have signed  quality recruits so far except for us.
I’m not including Glenelg as I believe they will recruit well.

Our Recruits have been reserves players from other clubs.

We need to sign at least 5 quality players after the draft and history says that won’t happen.

So Far I have been extremely disappointed given the money we have in our salary cap.
