Buckley also knew how to kick a goal, could certainly use him at the minute. I think Buckley hailed from the South East, maybe Mt Gambier.

Here is a tricky question which I don't know the answer to and hope the question makes sense. I seem to remember a game we played in the early 70s against Sturt which we won comfortably. It was played at Richmond. The side included 4-5 players from either Fitzroy or Footscray who were on loan for one week. I'm not sure how this was organised or in fact if it actually happened as back in those days several hours were spent pre game at the Rex. Am I dreaming or did this really happen?
Can you name these players?

Buckley was recruited from Port Melbourne but went to Mt Gambier as a teacher after his time with us.

Bruce, I think you are correct. I was away for that game, but in the back of my mind, the name O'Keefe comes up.

I'll check it out.

Blacky, I know that one. Player was paid a fortune by 4 AFL clubs. Did he ever play an AFL game?  I know he played for Port Reserves in a losing GF to us in 1994.

Given no answers to Aldo's question, I'll ask him to verify the initials or not.

I'm not sure what he kicked, but he was a dominant player. I remember in our 'well oiled state' yelling out Chuck a number of times. I have no idea how this arrangement came about, but it sounds like a Doug Thomas initiative to me.

According to Bloods Sweat and Tears, a J Berry played one game in 1980 and kicked 2 goals. Can't find any others who might have come over. There was an L Hayes also who I can't recall, so he might be one?

I hope I haven't imagined this, surely not. Do you have access to goal kickers/best players for Rd 6 1978. We beat Sturt at Richmond, but it seems too late. Although that was the year that Sturt only lost one minor round game and then the GF so an influx of VFL players would explain this. Someone must remember.

Yes, it seemed far too late. Now I'm really doubting myself. Someone must know.
Is there a website which has all SANFL results AND best players/goal kickers?

Right on both counts Wolfman.

‘Wolfman J.A.C.K.’

Well done you are a mind of info when it comes to West Adelaide.
David Gurney played some pretty good games for us.
Unfortunately I can’t remember Tony Hunt at all.

I think I've found the game in question. 1980 Round 4 West 24-13 def Sturt 7-19
Jeff Berry kicked 2 goals and is listed as having played one game for West and 35 for Footscray between 1980 and 1982. He originally came from Richmond FC.
I sure there were at least 2 others who played that day, possibly 3.
